Journey Through the Torah

The Torah Journey was a year-long project I worked on at the Bible Project. It was a significant component of the initial app launch, involving a deep dive through the first five books of the Bible (Genesis - Deuteronomy), including a series of illustrations per book, an accompanying podcast, and other in-app resources.

Rather than breaking up the Bible into chapters, the scholars took a new approach and divided sections as they may have been written at the time, into what they called movements (referencing classical music), with 3-4 movement illustrations per book, and a dozen or more in-line narrative illustrations to accompany.

Each book was illustrated in a different style, ranging from more literal depictions to collage to abstract imagery. This was an incredible project to work on. I collaborated first with scholars, gaining a better understanding of imagery, symbolism, and context within these books—many of which have challenging and dense content— before creating illustrations for each section. As the project came to a close after a year of work, 16 movement illustrations were created, along with over 54 narrative illustrations, as well as decorative elements for each of the five books. Someday, I would love to embark on this journey with the remaining books of the Bible.

Below is a selection of some of some of my favourites from the series.
